  BUS TRAVEL IN JAPAN

Buses in cities are plentiful and supplement trains and subways, while in towns and rural areas they are the primary public transport. Fares are generally calculated by distance and are paid upon alighting at your destination. Schedules vary but are usually divided into Weekday/Saturday and Sunday/Holiday schedules.

Bus schedules are listed at each bus stop. The buses are easily identifiable by number and destination. However, outside of major cities, information is mainly in Japanese. Find our more about metro buses here.
