Comfortable, Convenient, and Profitable! Travel by Highway Bus

Comfort

Various Equipment & Services

Seats

Comfort on the highway bus depends on the seat, and sleeping seats and full recliners are provided to promise sound sleep in a night bus. In addition, equipment for feet relaxation such as a foot stand or a footrest is installed in most buses and "face curtains" with which a passenger can spend the night without being conscious of those around is also provided in some buses.

Drink Service

In the service corner, drinks such as coffee and tea are available free with self-service.

Restrooms & Telephones

Restrooms are vacuum-type as in airplanes. The right center photograph shows one of a lovely design. When you get on the bus, please confirm where the restroom is just in case. Please remember that when a telephone is installed in the bus it is often located near the restroom.

Monitor & Earphones

Earphones are available for video programs on the monitor, or radio, and stereo so as not to disturb other sleeping passengers.

Luggage Space

Freight space is spacious. Because passengers do not bring their large luggage inside the bus, it is very comfortable in the bus for long periods without being troubled by large loads. There is a limitation to depositing special luggage such as a size limit (skis etc.), valuables (expensive goods etc.), fragile things, things which give off bad odors, or are corrosive. Please confirm before boarding the bus.

Nap Room

Most drivers operating highway buses for long hours rotate in order to take you safely to the destination. Some two story high decker buses have a nap room as in the photograph on the right. The door to the nap room is located differently from an ordinary vehicle and is not noticeable unless it is pointed out.

Other Equipment and Services

  • Blankets: sound sleep is assured at night with the blanket provided for each seat.
  • Slippers: your feet can also relax on the long trip.
  • Wet towels (oshibori): these are ready in the bus.
  • Newspapers: available in the magazine rack in the bus.
  • There are some routes with a discount ticket for bathing, breakfast, lodging, and sightseeing facilities.

* Above mentioned equipment and services are provided mainly for night travel buses, but not every night bus necessarily provides these services.

Comfortable seats that fit you

It is necessary to understand your physical constitution well in order to ride in a highway bus comfortably. The temperature (especially on the window side) or the vibration of a bus has quite different influences such as motion sickness, frequent use of the restroom, or poor circulation. Even in the same bus the degree of comfort varies from seat to seat. Your desire to change seats might not be accepted in some cases where seats are reserved. However, please secure the most comfortable seat for you by boarding the bus early when seats are not reserved.
